What is Parent Leadership Training?

Parent Leadership Training is a program designed specifically for parents of children with disabilities. It is based on research and a movement toward facilitated Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) meetings.

What is the Role of a Parent Leader?

Parent Leaders are trained by PRN to attend ARD Meetings with parents. Their role is to help the parent prepare for the meeting, plan an agenda, identify the issues and support the collaborative process of the meeting. This also means assisting the parent and school reach a consensus where possible. Parent Leaders are not advocates, but rather Partners in the ARD process. Parent Leaders are parents who have gone through a two day intensive Parent Leadership Training Program and are volunteers for Partners Resource Network (PRN).

What Does Parent Leadership Training Include?

Leadership Skills, IDEA Information, Understanding the Procedural Safeguards, IEP/ARD Components, Transition, Early Childhood Education, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Who is Parent Leadership For?

It is for parents who want to become Leaders in helping other parents understand the ARD process and how to obtain the best education for their child. Leadership candidates must have a strong foundational knowledge of IDEA.
