Updated versions of the Notice of Procedural Safeguards and Parent’s Guide to the ARD Process are now posted on the Texas Legal Framework website.

In October 2020, the US Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) required the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to make several edits to these documents. A summary of changes for each of these two documents can be found on the “Updates” tab of the Legal Framework. The documents are available in English and Spanish on the Legal Framework website and will soon be available in multiple other languages on the SPEDTex website.

OSEP requested that all schools in Texas distribute the updated versions of these documents to all families who received the previous versions during the 2020-2021 academic year. This includes families of students who were evaluated and determined to not qualify for special education services, wherever applicable.

Additionally, OSEP required TEA to make edits to the Dispute Resolution Handbook. The new version of that document is posted on the General Counsel’s section of the TEA website.
